Help Philanthropy Students in Australia  - 12/4/2004

A few students of philanthropy and social investment in Melbourne are attempting to put together a piece of research on ways for, and means of, encouraging the wealthy in particular, to give to philanthropic causes. We are looking at policies and practices in a range of western countries.

I am looking specifically at how US Federal tax law encourages philanthropic giving, especially amongst the wealthy.  I have seen reference to a 1990's Arthur Andersen edited publication "Charitable giving: a tax guide for individual donors".  If you know of its relevance to my research or where I might access an electronic version, I'd
appreciate hearing from you.  More broadly, please let me know if you can point me to accessible, summarised information on taxation incentives to encourage/support giving by high net worth individuals.

Please contact Christopher Baker at ccbkjh@bigpond.net.au

HELP FIGHT BREAST CANCER - 12/3/2004

Each of us can make a small contribution by clicking on the link below to donate in a big way to women that cannot afford the cost of a mammogram.  Please help save a woman's life today.

Please tell ten friends today. The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman .

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

CASE STUDY FOR BUSINESS SCHOOL RESEARCH - 11/29/2004

I am writing a case study for Kellogg business school and hope to find former AA employees willing to talk, starting from the Waste Management issue.   How did Andersen evolve into its 1990s self?  What, if anything, could the CEO (or one of his aides) have changed that might have  saved the company (in light of later developments)?  I am hoping for personal perspectives on what people were saying around the office (and among the partners), and on what they did and thought should be done.  It can be done anonymously, without the use of names.

Please contact me at:
r-crawford@kellogg.northwestern.edu

Arthur Andersen Houston Office Alumni Reunion - 7/15/2004

Attention Arthur Andersen Houston Office Alumni

Here are the reunion details you’ve been waiting for!!!

Thursday September 23, 2004 from 6-9 pm at
The Houston Museum of Natural Science
One Hermann Circle Drive

Unlike prior reunions, which were sponsored directly by our alma mater, this year’s reunion is being organized by alumni themselves. As a result, we are asking for a $30 per person contribution and there will be a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres. If you have not already done so, please send your payment (payable to Horn Murdock Cole – see address below) along with your current contact information (name, company and/or personal address, phone & email), as soon as possible. Your payment serves as your RSVP.

Your contact details will be included in a directory we will prepare and distribute to all who respond. If you cannot attend the reunion send your contact information anyway for inclusion and distribution. The directory costs you nothing and, although it may not be very fancy, it will be a token of our appreciation for each of you.  For alumni married to each other make sure you include both of your contact information.

As with our first announcement, we are relying on each of you to spread the word by forwarding this invitation to all alumni on your own contact lists.

Please contact either Jim Steffler (jsteffler@hornmurdockcole.com) or Brian Borque (bborque@hornmurdockcole.com) regarding any questions or to just say hi, either by email or at (713) 266-8288, ext 108 for Jim or 119 for Brian.  Our address for your payment is:

Horn Murdock Cole
10375 Richmond Ave.
Suite 450
Houston, TX 77042

It’s going to be great seeing everyone in September!

Disclaimer: This event is being organized by alumni of Arthur Andersen’s Houston office for their own benefit and has not been approved nor sanctioned by Arthur Andersen & Co, LLP nor are they in any way sponsoring it.

We look forward to seeing you!
